Handmade Bolt Action Ballpoint Pens

These gun-themed pens have a bolt-action lever that extends and retracts to secure the pen tip for writing.  The metal is plated in black nickel, except the tip and finial which are rose-gold plated in the likeness of a bullet.  There is even a rifle on the pen clip.  A perfect handmade pen for any gun enthusiast!

INK REFILL:  This pen takes a ‘Parker’ style refill.  Schmidt EasyFLOW 9000 recommended.

(A)  BIMBLE BOX BURL

The body of this pen was made using Bimblebox Burl imported from Australia. The wood is in the eucalyptus family of trees, and burl refers to a circular grain growth around an injury to the tree.  In this example the burl ‘eyes’ have voids giving the wood a distressed look. I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood.

(B)  RED BOX BURL

The wood used to create this pen is Red Box Burl imported from Australia. The wood is in the eucalyptus family of trees, and burl refers to a circular grain growth around an injury to the tree. I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood.

(C)  GRAY CAMOFLAUGE

The body of the pen was hand turned from gray camouflage acrylic material.  It contains swirls of white, light gray, dark gray and black. After turning, the acrylic was wet-sanded to 12000 grit and then polished on a buffing wheel to remove even the tiniest of scratches. 

(D)  BOCOTE

The pen was made using a figured block of Bocote hardwood from South America.  Bocote has a wavy grain pattern with yellow-orange wood interrupted by stripes of near black. I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood. 

(E)  PYINMA BURL

The body of this gun-themed pen was made using Pyinma Burl from Southeast Asia.  The wood has a shiny brown color and notable chatoyance in bright light. I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood. 

(F)  RHODESIAN TEAK

The body of this bolt-acton pen was made using Rhodesian Teak hardwood which comes from Zimbabwe. The wood is a rich caramel color with dots of dark brown. I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood.

(G)  CURLY KOA

The body of the pen was made using curly Koa wood from Hawaii. The wood is a rich brown color with a horizontal wavy grain pattern. The grain has a sparkling chatoyancy that gives the wood a three dimensional appearance in the right light.  I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood. 

(H)  BLACK IRONWOOD

The body of this gun-themed pen was made using Black Ironwood. The wood is brown with dark brown and black grain patterns.  The wood comes from Florida and is one of the heaviest woods in the US. I applied my best and most durable finish of polished cyanoacrylate to the wood.
